Sun Safe Skin

Skin

Over the last few decades the problems that can arise from skin sun damage have become increasingly well known.  Not only wrinkles and premature aging such as age spots but more seriously skin cancer.

You should protect your skin all year round from ultraviolet radiation (UV) damage but even more so during the summer months when we have more hours of sunshine and the intensity of the sun increases.

It is recommended that you use a daily moisturiser with sun protection factor (SPF) to protect your skin from these damaging rays and help you to prevent premature aging and skin melanomas.

To keep your skin in great condition this summer we recommend that you follow these professional tips:

1. Exfoliate skin in the evening

Exfoliation will buff away the old skin cells on the surface and reveal glowing skin underneath, but this can reduce the skins defence barrier.  Avoid exfoliating in the morning when the skin is about to battle with the elements it faces during the day.  Exfoliating in the evening is the best time, followed by a hydrating moisturiser for the greatest benefits.  Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant is gentle enough for regular use buffing away the dulling debris and making skin smoother and brighter.

2. Hydrate the skin

The sun dehydrates the skin and can continue to do so several hours after moving out the sun.  Use a moisturiser to hydrate the skin in the morning and evening.  Dermalogica offer a range of moisturisers for all skin concerns, from skin with excess oil production to dry and prematurely ageing.  All of them work to rehydrate your skin and help to protect your skin’s natural defences.  You should also increase your water intake when the weather is warm to keep your skin and the rest of your body rehydrated.

3. Protect your skin from the sun

Wearing a moisturiser every day with an SPF is essential to protect your skin and reduce the effects of premature ageing and sun damage.   Dermalogica’s daylight defence range protects against UVA and UVB rays and targets skin concerns improving the appearance and health of your skin.  They can be used in conjunction with or as your day time moisturiser.  Don’t forget to protect the delicate skin around the eye area too.  Dermalogica’s Total Eye Care contains light diffusers to reduce the appearance of dark circles and smooth fine lines as well as containing SPF15.

Hair

Hair needs all year round protection, particularly in the summer due to the harmful UVB and UVA rays.   We all tend to use more heated styling equipment now, which can have a detrimental effect on the hair structure.  In order to maintain the condition of the hair we would recommend you use products prescribed to your hairs needs.

At Brooks we offer a free consultation service, advising on products that would be tailored to your hair type, condition and styling requirements.

To keep your hair in great condition this summer follow these professional tips-
